The 2024 Project Kids Bond Advisory Committee held its sixth and final meeting on May 2 at the Professional Learning and Auxiliary Services building. The Project Kids committee members collaborated and came to consensus on final recommendations for campus renovations and construction projects, capital projects and maintenance, transportation purchases, safety and security upgrades, and technology enhancements. All finalized projects will be brought to the Allen ISD Board of Trustees to consider for a future bond election.
The 80 committee members, divided into nine discussion groups, reviewed more than 35 construction, renovation, and maintenance projects, and ranked them based on priorities such as student requirements, cost, and necessity. After considering each project, the groups voted, and the results were consolidated into a final list of recommendations for the Board. Each table considered each project individually, and projects had to reach super-majority approval (2/3 approval from present committee members) for it to be approved by the table. Individual projects then required super majority approval from all voting tables (6 out of 9 tables total) to make the final Project Kids’ recommendation cut.
The list of recommendations will be presented to the Board at the May 21 meeting. The Board will consider the proposals and may choose to vote on whether or not to bring a bond package for voters to consider.
“The Project Kids committee worked hard over the past three months in developing these priorities for the future of our students and families,” said Allen ISD Superintendent Dr. Robin Bullock. “It is gratifying that so many citizens and stakeholders devoted hours of time and effort into assessing and prioritizing our facilities in order to best support our students.”
