Allen ISD’s Dillard Special Achievement Center hosted at open house for parents and guardians of students in the district’s Transition Program to see the work produced by the students and learn about their lessons.
The Transition Program is for special education students who have completed the required components for high school graduation. The students learn life skills in the program as they transition to adulthood. Many of the students are eligible to continue in school until they turn 22 to further develop their independent living skills and connections into adult services.
The Dillard Center began hosting the Transition Program in the 2022-2023 school year and expanded from 10 students to 31 this year. The Transition Program is part of the district’s special education planning and strategy development to assist students with the transition to post-secondary/adult services. The program is staffed by three teachers and three assistants.
