Sonya Pitcock, Principal of Curtis Middle School, was recently selected as the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region 10 Outstanding Principal of the Year.    TASSP honors exceptional principals and assistant principals from the twenty regional Education Service Centers across Texas. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions based on exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. As a Region 10 winner, Sonya Pitcock is now eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Principal of the Year. Sonya Pitcock, a twelve-year principal, and six-year assistant principal has headed the leadership team at Curtis Middle School since 2007. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas. Sonya is a passionate advocate for public education, a dedicated educator, and a leader of leaders. Her accomplishments include numerous Superintendent Recognitions, recognition from National Schools to Watch, and placement on the Educational Results Partnership’s Honor Roll list. 

The region winners will be honored during Josten’s Night of the Stars Awards Dinner, held in June 2025 with the TASSP Summer Conference. Each recipient will receive an award and be featured in a commemorative book, “Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.”
