The Allen Independent School District proudly dedicated its thirteenth elementary school in the name of former Allen High School teacher Mrs. Carlena Chandler. Born in McKinney, Texas on April 2, 1942, The former Carlena Marion attended Allen High School where she graduated as class valedictorian in 1960. Following high school she attended the University of North Texas where she earned an undergraduate degree in business administration and a graduate degree in education.
She married Charles Chandler in 1963 and the couple raised two sons; Brian and Bart. Mrs. Chandler joined the Allen High School faculty as a business teacher in 1968. She taught business education at the school from 1968 to 1970 and returned in 1973. She retired in 1999 after serving Allen High School her entire teaching career of twenty-eight years.
Following her retirement, Carlena Chandler served the Allen schools through her volunteer work and work with the Allen Retired Educators Association. Carlena Chandler touched the lives of thousands of students over two generations in Allen. Her forty-seven-year association with the Allen schools has left an indelible mark on our community. Mrs. Chandler passed away in June 2023.
